The course is divided into two modules. The first module will focused on the origin within the library and illustrate through an historical and theoretical framework of the study of the phenomenon through the wide phenomenology of the marks on books. In particular, the theme will be analyzed as a tool for the reconstruction of extinct libraries mainly privates. A part of the module will be devoted to the particular field of the marks on books as part of the libraries of the author in collaboration with Dr. Laura Would the Cabinet Viesseux of Florence. The second module will be seminar and practical and will address the practical implementation of what has been acquired during the first module by analyzing the marks on a large sample of specimens of the Biblioteca Umanistica, sezione di Lettere di Firenze. Students will be involved in the direct analysis of the marks, their deciphering and indexing them to build a database that allows to partially reconstruct the origins of copies and the reconstruction of the appearance of the library from which they come.
