Learning Objectives
The course aims to offer the student an overall overview of the main themes of contemporary cataloging and metadata, the principles, standards, rules and languages that relate the collection and the reader; the functions and bibliographic services rendered to readers by the traditional and digital library.

Three meetings are scheduled (remotely) on the basic aspects of online research for art history and archeology, and for library science, in collaboration with the Biblioteca Umanistica. Type of Assessment
Students are invited to write an essay (about 15,000 characters, including spaces), taking up a particular topic treated in class or inherent in the course, agreed with the professor. The paper should be sent to the professor by email one week before the exam session.

Overview of international and Italian cataloging. Theoretical references. Universal bibliographic control in the digital ecosystem. FRBR, FRAD, FRSAD. The IFLA LRM conceptual model. RDA, Resource Description and Access, the metadata standard for the digital age. From record management to entity management. Examples of description and access to resources. The Italian text of RDA.
