The course aims to provide the necessary knowledge to allow the student
to achieve the knowledge of political and institutional history of Middle
ages through the study of one of its most significant topics: the Italian
city-states.

The course will focus in particular on the history of political systems in
the Italian city-states (11th-13th centuries). It Will be analyzed the urban
political space and its various components (episcopal, communal and
seigneurial powers), with particular reference to the analysis of elites,
conflicts for power and institutional configurations.
